The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UC Santa Barbara enthusiastically welcomes Assistant Prof. Nadia Léonard, starting this summer 2023!
Dr. Léonard received a Sc.B. in Chemistry from Brown University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University. She is currently a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California Irvine, under the guidance of Professor Jenny Yang. Dr. Léonard's research program will study the effects of internal and external electric fields on the photophysical and magnetic properties of first row transition metal complexes. These fundamental studies will enable a number of applications in photocatalysis and chemical sensing. Of particular importance is the potential of her Earth-abundant, sustainable complexes to replace the expensive, precious metal photocatalysts that are the current state-of-the-art.
