Virus Software Installation Instructions

UCSB has a site license for Norton Anti Virus software.  The software is free of charge to faculty, staff and students for use on departmental or home computers. Updated virus definitions are available on the Norton Anti Virus Update page.

For help on installing the software, click on your operating system:

Macintosh

  1. Uninstall any virus software currently installed.
  2. Download the Norton Anti Virus software for Macintosh.
  3. You should now have a new folder named Mac OS on your desktop.  Double click on this to open it and then double click on the file named Norton Anti Virus Installer. Accept all defaults offered by the program.
  4. Restart your computer.

Windows

  1. Uninstall any virus software by using the Add/Remove Software icon located in the control panel (My Computer>Control Panel> Add/Remove Software)
  2. Download the Norton Anti Virus software that is appropriate for your Windows operating system.  Make sure to note the location where you download the file to.
  3. Navigate to the location where you downloaded the file to.  There will be a new folder named Norton Anti-Virus.  Double click to open this folder.  You may have to double click several times to navigate down to the folder that contains the setup.exe file.  Once you are there, double click on setup.exe to begin the installation process. Accept all defaults offered by the program.
  4. Restart your computer.
