Virus Information

The simplest solution to avoiding most current viruses is to NOT open e-mail attachments, unless you have current virus detection software running on your computer.  This is true even if the e-mail is from someone you know.  Because most current viruses originate from a user's Microsoft Outlook address book, these viruses will usually come from someone who already has your address such as a co-worker or a friend.  If you must open an attachment, make sure that you first have up to date anti-virus software running on your computer.

UCSB has a site license for Norton AntiVirus .  This software can be used to disinfect computers and to protect computers from being infected.
