Won Hyuk Suh received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemistry from Seoul National University, Korea in 1998 and 2002. In between these two degrees he spent 26 months in the U.S. and Korean Armies as a translator and interpreter. His M.S. work involved organometallic synthesis and asymmetric synthesis using transition metal catalysts in aqueous media. In 2006, he received his doctorate degree in inorganic/materials chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the guidance of Prof. Kenneth S. Suslick (Thesis title: Microspheres and Nanoparticles from Ultrasound). Subsequently he moved to University of California, Santa Barbara for his postdoctoral work in material and bioengineering where he is working on porous and nanostructured hierarchical materials for biomedical applications which include stem cell engineering under the guidance of Prof. Galen D. Stucky.
