Ryan recieved his B.S. in Chemistry at Montana State University in 2003. His work focuses on understanding the mechanism of photoproduced NO from [Cr(cyclam)(ONO)2]+. The goal of the project is to use a sensitizer to stimulate forbidden transitions (weak absorptions) in the title compound resulting in release of NO at longer wavelengths than ever before. The results of this work have been studied with several standard techniques but focus heavily on developing detection methods to monitor the photo-reaction by use of a nitric oxide specific electrode and/or a chemiluminescent nitric oxide analyzer in real time.
