Graduate Program - Fellowships & Grants - DeWolfe Research Fellowship (updated 08/23/04)

This fellowship honors former professor of Organic Chemistry, Robert H. DeWolfe. It was established by his wife, Barbara B. DeWolfe, in 1983 in memory of her late husband.

This fellowship is awarded annually to graduate students involved with teaching and instilling the principles of organic chemistry to undergraduates. Recently the emphasis has evolved. Rather instruct a large class, the graduate student awardees are expected to mentor outstanding undergraduates in a [1:1] environment within their research labs. Half of the graduate's stipend is supported by the DeWolfe award, while the other half from their advisor. Depending upon effort, the undergraduate participant receives credit for either chem 6B or chem 6C laboratory courses or both. At the conclusion of their project, the undergraduate participants give oral presentations of their respective research, while the graduate mentor and sponsors attend to critique and assigns grades. Undergraduates participants are usually enrolled in CCS or are selected at the conclusion of the fall quarter by the faculty member in charge of the program. Graduate and undergraduate students desiring to participate should should contact their appropriate advisor for further information.
