UCSB alumni acknowledged as spearheading 4th most important scientific development in China for 2006

Some 565 academicians at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy voted in January 2007 for the top 10 most significant developments in science and technology in China during the last year. One of these highlighted the work of UCSB Alumni, Dr Xueming Yang, now Director of the State key Laboratory for Chemical Reaction Dynamics at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Together with his colleagues, Dr Yang observed for the first time resonance phenomenon of a full quantum state resolved chemical reaction and successfully confirmed the process using a theoretical model, answering a 30-year-old question in the international community and significantly improving our depth of understanding of elementary chemical reactions. Dr. Yang received his Ph.D. from UCSB in 1991 working with Professor Alec M. Wodtke.
