UCSB Alumnus Awarded Major International Prize

The Gunnar Randers Research Prize for 2007 has been awarded to Professor Paul Meakin, currently Director of the Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), and Professor at the University of Oslo, Norway and at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia. The Gunnar Randers prize, consisting of a work of art and NOK 100.000,-, (about $US17,000) is awarded to Norwegians or persons connected to Norwegian research environments; it was established in 2001 and is awarded every second year in recognition of work in the area of physics of condensed matter, specifically work leading to advances in basic knowledge, innovation or technological breakthrough.

Paul Meakin received a BSc degree in chemistry (1st. class honors) from the University of Manchester, and in 1969, he received a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara with Professor David O. Harris.
