Luis J. Prat

Hi, I am Luis Prat, electronics engineer. I have a Bachelor of Electromechanical Technology from The City University of New York. I have worked in electronics for over 20 years.

After graduation I worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Holmdel, New Jersey in the Repeater Techniques Research Department, where I contributed to studies on optical fiber transmission, splicing mechanisms and semiconductor laser research.

After I moved to California in 1980 I worked in the semiconductor industry as manager of equipment maintenance for four years. In 1984 I came to UCSB to work in the electronic shop of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Over the years I have designed and built a large variety of electronic equipment for use by the different research groups. These come to mind:

Many types of high speed (2 ns risetimes) pulse amplifiers for photomultipliers
High Voltage power supplies
High Voltage Amplifiers
The electronics for Prof. Bowers' Ion Chromatography system
Electronics for Scanning Tunneling Microscopes
Current sources for tritration experiments

and many more ...

If you need some gizmo you can't buy out there, come talk to me. I'm sure we can make something for you that will work reliably for many years (and if it breaks I can always fix it).
