Office: Chem 3116
Office hours: Friday 3-4 pm and by appointment
Guest lecturers (dates to be announced)
Dr. James Pavlovich – mass spectrometry
Dr. Songi Han – NMR spectroscopy
Texts (both required):
"Introduction to Spectroscopy" by Pavia, Lampman, Kriz, and Vyvyan, 4th edition, Brooks/Cole publishers, 2009.
"Organic Structure Determination Using 2-D NMR Spectroscopy, a problem-based approach" by J. H. Simpson, published by Academic Press, 2008.
Reading – read the book by Pavia et al. in its entirety, and those sections of Simpson's book as it relates to the material being discussed in class.
Problem sets – you should work the problems that appear at the end of the chapters in Pavia et al. Choose the chapter that deals with the subject matter that is being discussed in class. You may turn them in, if you wish. It is highly recommended that you work the problems.
