There are three levels of safety training. They also determine your status at OCF.
  • Stranger. You just bring your sample and tell us what to measure. The most boring (for us) and expensive (for you) way to do the research.

    Required safety training:
    • Be kind and polite with OCF staff and other users :).

  • Casual user. You need to use OCF from time to time. You are interested in performing experiments yourself, but need supervision.

    Required safety training:
    • UCSB laser safety manual (available online and at OCF)
    • OCF safe operations manual (available online and at OCF)

  • Permanent user. You are skilled enough to work on your own.

    Required safety training:
    • UCSB laser safety manual (available online and at OCF)
    • OCF safe operations manual (available online and at OCF)
    • UCSB laser safety training (available very infrequently at EH&S) or UCSB laser safety video (available at EH&S)
    • Interview with OCF coordinator

All safety training must be documented in the logbook prior to the work.
